VI. COMPETENCY AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS: PROCEDURES FOR ADDRESSING PERFORMANCE DISAGREEMENTS

ANNUAL EVALUATION FOR ADVANCEMENT

  1. All PGY-1, PGY-2, and PGY-3 residents are evaluated annually for advancement by the Resident Education Steering Committee (RESC). Advancement to the next PGY-level is contingent on the resident's making satisfactory progress toward meeting the educational goals specified for his/her current PGY-level..
  1. Resident progress is monitored in an ongoing way by the resident's faculty advisor, the program director, and the Site Coordination Committee. If the Site Coordination Committee recommends non-promotion or non-reappointment of a resident, the resident will be notified in advance of the RESC's January meeting, and the resident's faculty advisor will be invited to attend the RESC meeting in an advising, non-voting capacity. The RESC may or may not follow the Site Coordination Committee's recommendations. The recommendations of the RESC are to the Program Director and, ultimately, to the Department Chair.
    1. In the case of non-promotion or non-reappointment, as per the Resident Position Appointment, the resident will be notified by February 15th or at least four months prior to the normal termination date of the resident's existing appointment if the date of appointment is any date other than June 30th. The notification will be by letter to the resident and will contain the reasons for the non-promotion or non-reappointment.
